GRINDING DISC

Description

Grinding Disc are circular abrasive discs or wheels used to grind, file, wear or smooth material. They are made of different type of abrasives suitable for different materials. Most common type of abrasive is Aluminium Oxide which is used for mild steel, high speed steel, alloy steel, annealed malleable iron, wrought iron and bronze or similar metals.Aluminium oxide is not suitable for stainless steel.

They metal grinding discs are most commonly used for grinding welded joints, pipe notching, bevelling or contouring, smoothening edges, shaping or heavy removal of material etc. They come in standard size of 100mm (4”), 115mm (4.5”) and 125mm (5”). Also comes in larger sizes of 180mm, 230mm, 300mm and 350mm.  They are designed to suit most of the common angle grinders in the market.

Grinding discs are usually thicker than cut off disc to give more strength while working on an angle. The thickness gives more material to wear out as they are designed to thin out. Usually grinding discs are 3mm thick and some of them are 6mm.

To grind concrete, bricks, ceramics or any masonry surfaces, usually griding wheels are used. They are cup shaped wheelswith diamond lining for the abrasive made to withstand concrete. They are mostly used to smoothing rough edges,remove paint or adhesive from the floor or material removal.The diamond cup comes in either waved or segmented pattern. The single segmented row diamond cup wheel is ideal for concrete repairs. It has segments of diamond abrasives lined up around the circumference of the wheel. The wheel comes with the holes in the surface which helps in dissipation of heat and keeping it cool. It gives you more material removal however it is a bit slow in operation. Same cup wheel comes in double segmented row as well which pretty much doubles the efficiency of the single row wheel. The waved wheel has segments which are not as standout as a segmented wheel but are arranged on an angle giving it that twisted wavy look. It gives you the speed and it is designed in a way that the concrete dust can easily escape giving you lesser resistance. It offers less vibrations and smoother surface finishes. The continuous rim wheel is a homogenous surface without any segment which gives you a smooth finish and ideal for shaping and rounding edges and removing roughness.  It can be used to form marbles, granite surfaces, corners and edges.

The flap discs are usually used on stainless steel, timber or plastics. They have flaps fixed on them on an angle which results in smoother finish. The most common type of abrasive used in flap discs is Alumina Zirconia, which is ideal for sanding, grinding, polishing or cleaning. They are high quality and heavy-duty general-purpose sanding discs have a convex design which help in working on the edges and confined spaces.

What The Fastener Factory Stocks

The Fastener Factory stocks most of the common sizes of metal grinding discs. Comes in sizes of 100mm (4”), 115mm (4.5”), 125mm (5”), 180mm (7”), 230mm (9”), 300mm (12”)and 350mm (14”). 

They have different thickness and bush diameter usually 16mm for the 100mm (4”) and 22mm and 25mm for the larger ones.

Concrete cutting discs comes in 3 standard sizes 100mm (4”), 115mm (4.5”) and 125mm (5”).
